Egypt’s Al Ahly Cairo earned the right to compete at December’s 2024 FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship in India after completing an impeccable run of eight consecutive straight-set victories at the home-based 2024 African Men’s Volleyball Club Championship and deservedly topped the podium on Tuesday.

Led by outside hitter Ahmed Azab Abdelrahman with 14 points, Al Ahly hammered out a 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-18) shutout of Tunisia’s Mouloudia Bou Salem in the final to triumph as continental champions.

Al Ahly have already participated in the Club World Championships three times, in 2010, in 2011 and in 2015, and always registered a fifth place finish.

The 2024 African Club Championship took place from April 14 to 23 in Cairo with the participation of 21 teams from 14 different countries. Kenya Prisons Nairobi joined Al Ahly and Mouloudia on the podium as bronze medallists after squeezing out a hard-fought 3-2 (23-25, 25-19, 25-17, 18-25, 15-13) victory over Libya’s Al Naser Benghazi in the third place match.

Al Ahly’s 39-year-old opposite Ahmed Abdelhay was named Most Valuable Player of the African Club Championship.
